Board Meeting to discuss Budget

Present: Ziggy Blum, Annie Heron, Robin Russell, Merry Newcomer, Karen Washburn, Avi Harriman, Nolan Blansit, Leslie Friedman, Maryanne Smith


The budget was discussed and approved. Overall, it was noted that we have had a decline in income, and this is lowering our margin of safety in terms of reserves. We discussed different strategies to reverse this trend.


The most significant change was that it was decided that Robin Russell will be doing the taxes, thus decreasing our expenses in that we have been paying Susan Fishel and an accountant to do this. Annie  volunteered to contact Susan and get the books and software from her soon.


We decided to have no workshops this year, with the possible exception of a fundraiser involving several local potters demonstrating for the community at large.


Due to budget shortfalls, it was decided to suspend the community college scholarships for this year. The issue will be revisited as appropriate dependent on income. 

We will send a letter to let the Community Colleges know we will not be funding scholarships this year.


Clay in Education has spent $775. so far this year. We discussed ways to enhance the raffle – whether or not tickets at the sales counter was a good idea; putting info about the raffle on the maps, etc. Nothing was concluded, except that this is a Clay Fest matter.

Annie proposed putting out a newsletter once per month, with a deadline at the same time every month. Deadline will be the 1st of the month, newsletter will be sent out on the 10th. If all goes well.
